I had to take care of a few things for my mother, and so escaped last night for New York, where the worst fears were thankfully never realized. A hot shower, morning toast and coffee, and I am ready to go back home and figure out what to do about my all-consuming concern, the food! Cherisse says the meats still seem to be rock hard. But the fruits and zucchini bread are no longer frozen. I might have to take them to my sister’s house tomorrow (a 45 minute drive) and put them in her freezer. Not ideal by any means, but if the power isn’t restored soon it is the only way to save them. I hate waste of any kind, but especially when it is food I have worked so hard to put away. Cherisse is buying more ice on her way home from work.
