Our second hive has been successfully installed—a much livelier (and bigger) colony than the one from two weeks ago. Sunday we will check both hives. In the first we hope to see further signs of egg laying and capped brood. In the new hive we will make sure the bees have released their queen.
Are the bees themselves very heavy? They look dense.

Hi Lori! The packages we order are 3 pounds of bees (although some die en route). This box was indeed very dense, but they are also covering the tin can with their food. The queen cage is also dangling in there, although that is small. Here are two videos…one shows the bees being packaged, and the other (really fascinating!) shows the packaging of the queen.
